Robert Pattinson walked The Odyssey red carpet in London on Monday looking like he had just stepped off a Gotham rooftop, dark hair and all. As it turns out, he basically had.
Pattinson told reporters at the premiere that he had come straight from the set of The Batman Part II that same morning, joking that he still had his Batman eye makeup on.
After years of delays, that offhand comment is the clearest sign yet that Matt Reeves’ long-awaited DC sequel is deep into production.
Pattinson Brought His Bruce Wayne Look To London
The world premiere for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey took over Leicester Square on Monday, July 6, and it landed as one of the starriest carpets of the year.
Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o and Mia Goth all turned out ahead of the film’s July 17 release. Pattinson plays Antinous, one of the arrogant suitors circling Penelope back in Ithaca. Reactions call the movie a triumph, even amid all the backlash.
Pattinson kept it simple in a light grey suit and black tie, but the detail Batman fans zeroed in on was the dark, slicked-back hair, the same look he wears as Bruce Wayne. It did not take long to find out why.
“I’ve Still Got Eye Make-Up On”
Speaking to press on the carpet, Pattinson confirmed he had been shooting The Batman Part II that very morning before heading to the premiere.
“I’ve still got eye make-up on,” he joked, per Variety, a nod to the heavy black makeup Reeves uses around his eyes beneath the cowl.
He also reflected on reuniting with Nolan after Tenet, praising the director for keeping enormous productions calm and enjoyable. But it was the Batman aside that set DC fans buzzing, since it doubles as an on-the-record confirmation that cameras are rolling.
The Batman Part II Is Officially Rolling
Pattinson’s comment lines up with everything we know about the production timeline.
Filming on The Batman Part II began in June 2026, primarily at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, with location work across England and Scotland.
Reeves shared the film’s first official shot as production kicked off, and the earliest set footage surfaced out of Liverpool, which is once again standing in for parts of Gotham.
Pattinson himself had already teased a punishing schedule of roughly 11 weeks of night shoots, so turning up to a premiere with makeup still on tracks with the grind he described.
The sequel reunites Pattinson with Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot.
Newcomers include Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan and Charles Dance, along with Brian Tyree Henry, whose rumored turn as Two-Face has been one of the bigger talking points, though Reeves has kept the film’s main villain firmly under wraps.
Reeves has said the story picks up during the winter following the flooding of Gotham, with Bruce Wayne pulled into another case that digs deeper into the city’s corruption.
A Long Road Back To Gotham
It is worth remembering how long fans have waited for this.
The Batman opened in March 2022 and grossed $772 million worldwide, yet the sequel has slipped repeatedly, pushed back while Reeves finished the script and while Pattinson knocked out The Odyssey and Dune: Part Three. The follow-up now arrives more than five years after the original.
So there is something fitting about Pattinson doing double duty here, promoting a Nolan epic in one breath and confirming Batman is shooting in the next. The wait has been long, but Gotham is finally back in front of the cameras.

The Batman Part II is directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin. Robert Pattinson returns as Bruce Wayne and Batman, with filming underway in the UK since June 2026.
The film is scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027, under the DC Elseworlds label, which sits separate from James Gunn’s main DC Universe. The Odyssey arrives much sooner, opening in theaters and IMAX on July 17.
