Robert Pattinson Says The Batman Part II Is ‘Quite Radical’

UPDATE 2 9/25: Pattinson breaks down The Batman for GQ, revealing the 1989 comic he built his Batman on and how he came up with the voice.

UPDATE 9/14: The first look at Pattinson as Bruce Wayne on the sequel’s set is here, and it comes with a crowd of Gotham protesters and a “Court of Fowls” sign fans are reading as a Court of Owls tease.

Robert Pattinson says even the playback on The Batman Part II looks different from the first film, and what he’s saying lines up with our insider reporting from two weeks ago.

Pattinson was asked about the sequel at the Venice Film Festival, where his A24 movie Primetime premiered Saturday to a nine-minute standing ovation.

The clip comes from Italian outlet MYmovies.it.

“It’s funny as well, having done all this different stuff in between,” Pattinson said. “Matt just wrote this amazing script. It’s difficult to reinvent Batman as this new thing, and then to kind of go in another totally different direction.”

Pattinson continued, “Even when I’m just looking at the playback on certain things, it looks different to the first one. It’s just amazing. It’s quite radical.”

He also said, “It’s cool that Warner’s behind it, and DC. It’s just crazy. I think Matt is the only person who anybody would allow to do it, because it’s like a really radical retelling of that moment.”

“I think some people are going to be excited by it,” Pattinson added.

Pattinson didn’t say what moment he means.

Our Insiders: Early Reaction Is “Off The Roof”

On August 21, our sources told us early internal reaction to The Batman Part II is “off the roof,” with Pattinson “in top form.”

That same reporting laid out David Ellison going all in on Batman once the Paramount merger closes: Matt Reeves finishing his trilogy, plus an Arkham Asylum series trilogy.

“They’re really high on Reeves,” the source said.

Now Pattinson is saying from Venice that Warner Bros. and DC are behind the movie, and that Reeves is the only person anybody would allow to make it.

Our source goes further on Pattinson himself: Paramount/WB see him as the next Tom Cruise, with Reeves and Pattinson “being offered whatever they want to continue the Batman franchise.”

All of it kicks in when the merger closes. The deal is frozen until a trial verdict, which could come as late as June 2027 unless the two sides settle first.

The moment someone can sign, per our source: “IT’S ON!”

Shooting Now For February 2028

The sequel is filming now, and the Glasgow night shoots just handed fans their best look yet at the new Batsuit, including the longer cowl ears Reeves personally confirmed.

The same shoots showed the GCPD opening fire on the Batmobile and Batman escaping on a police motorcycle.

Fans have already connected that footage to Frank Miller’s Batman: Year One.

Pattinson leads the returning cast alongside Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, Colin Farrell, Jayme Lawson, and Gil Perez-Abraham.

Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry, and Sebastian Koch have joined in roles Warner Bros. has not confirmed.

The Batman Part II opens in theaters and IMAX on February 18, 2028.

“I think some people are going to be excited by it,” Pattinson says.

Per our insiders, the people buying Warner Bros. already are.
