Robert Downey Jr. does not post much about Avengers: Doomsday, so when he does, it is worth reading the tea leaves.
This week he shared a piece of Avengers: Doomsday chess art to his Instagram story, and the imagery maps almost perfectly onto the film’s rumored ending.
The Art, and Who Actually Made It
The image is fan art by BossLogic, the artist Kode Abdo, whom Downey credited twice in the story: once with an account tag at the top and again with an “@bosslogic” caption below.
BossLogic has done plenty of official work for Marvel and other studios, but this is a personal piece, not a Marvel-issued poster. The “Infinity Vision” label on it is his own flourish, not studio branding. It’s related to the fact that Avengers: Doomsday won’t have IMAX screenings, with Disney now pushing alternative premium screens for fans to watch.
Downey also set the repost to a track titled “Nocturne Dominus,” dominus being Latin for “lord” or “master.” For the actor now playing Doctor Doom, that is not a subtle needle drop.
Why the Chess Board Matters
The art is a wrecked chess board.
Pieces lie shattered and toppled across the squares, a lone rook stands upright in a shaft of light, and a hand reaches in from the edge, mid-move.
For a movie built around Doctor Doom, that reads less like a poster and more like a thesis statement. Doom is the player. Everyone else is a piece.
It Lines Up With the Doomsday Plot Leak
The chess symbolism dovetails with the full plot breakdown now circulating online, the one John Campea recently vouched for on his show.
Per that leak, which remains rumor until Marvel says otherwise, Doomsday ends with Doom winning outright.
He collapses the Multiverse, resurrects the dead with their memories wiped, and rules them as emperor of Battleworld. Heroes as pawns, one player left standing. It is the same idea BossLogic put on a chessboard.
None of that makes Downey’s story a confirmation of anything. He is an actor sharing art he liked, not a studio releasing marketing. But it is a notable thing for the face of the franchise to amplify a piece that captures the villain’s reported endgame this precisely, and this close to release.
