Disney has announced that Robert Downey Jr. will return as Iron Man for The Avengers 2 and 3.

Robert Downey Jr. has signed a two-picture agreement that will see the actor star as Tony Stark and Iron Man for The Avengers 2 and The Avengers 3, announced Marvel.com.

No menion is made of an “Iron Man 4.”

Previous to the announcement there was talk that Marvel Studios and the cast of The Avengers were having their own battle over finances, with it said Robert Downey Jr. was backing his fellow Assemblers.

Most recently, director Joss Whedon stated he wouldn’t do The Avengers 2 without the actor.

Now it appears that everything has worked itself out, but the question of an “Iron Man 4” still remains.

The Avengers 2 has a May 1, 2015 release, and Disney announced two new release dates for unnamed movies, which could be for The Avengers 3 with either May 6th 2016 or May 5th 2017. Most likely the latter would be the date for The Avengers 3.

Robert Downey’s Jr.’s last two Marvel Studios films with The Avengers and Iron Man 3 have brought in over $2.7 billion worldwide.
