Review: Avengers Vs. X-Men #0

 

 

Avengers Vs. X-Men is here!

Well, sorta.

This is just the “zero” issue, if there can actually be such a thing.

Well, what it is, is a prequel to Marvel’s biggest event ever (isn’t every one?!) that sees two stories: the first, written by Brian Michael Bendis, about the Scarlet Witch, with the second, by Jason Aaron, about the Mutant Messiah, Hope.

It’s not a “must read” – by any means, and at four bucks a pop, seems pricey for yours truly. I suppose it is a primer for those who have zero (hey, “zero” – I get it!) knowledge about the previous Marvel U. events. Mention of Wanda’s past is touched upon with the “no more mutants” thing; likewise, we are introduced to Hope and her purpose or destiny of being the saving mutant grace. What it does is give us both the Avengers and the Mutants perspective from where they will be coming from in issues to come.

It’s basically the Ying and the Yang.

Avengers Vs. X-Men.

I stopped reading Avengers a while ago, and haven’t been able to crack a mutant book open since the Vampires sunk their teeth into them, but nothing in the issue was unknown to me. Again, not sure it was supposed to be anything more than an intro, with the big shock and awe maybe coming next week in Avengers Vs. X-Men #1.

I would say if you are a die-hard Avengers or X-Men fan, pick it up, otherwise save your money for next week’s first issue.
