Ghost Market was officially unveiled Friday night at the Disney Entertainment Showcase, and it haunts theaters in spring 2028.
Per The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit, the film is about ghosts and follows a content creator who heads to Hawaii and discovers the crossroad of the living and the dead.
Pixar revealed the official title treatment on stage and confirmed the spring 2028 window on social media.
From Ono Ghost Market To The Big Screen
The project first surfaced back in March under the title Ono Ghost Market in a Wall Street Journal deep dive on Pixar, described as inspired by Asian myths about supernatural bazaars where the living and the dead interact.
A March 10, 2028 release date was staked out shortly after, and the D23 title card suggests the studio has since trimmed the name down to Ghost Market.
Trevor Jimenez, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker behind the short Weekends and a story supervisor on Soul, writes and directs.
Notably, the project reportedly started life as a Disney+ series follow-up to Win or Lose before Pixar retooled it into a theatrical feature, a first for the studio.
Pixar’s Big Original Swing
Original movies have been a rough ride for the studio lately. Elio bombed with the worst opening weekend in Pixar history last summer, while the sequels keep printing money.
This summer’s Toy Story 5 crossed $1 billion, and the same D23 presentation delivered dates and details for Incredibles 3 and Coco 2.
That gives Pixar two swings in 2028, with Ghost Market arriving in spring before Incredibles 3 lands June 16.
Ghost Market hits theaters March 10, 2028.
