Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is back at No. 1 at the daily box office.
The movie grossed $1.6 million on Tuesday, September 8, edging out Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s $1.5 million, per Box Office Mojo.
It’s the third time Nolan’s movie has finished a day ahead of Spider-Man. It also did it on September 2 and September 3.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day opened two weeks after The Odyssey and remains the bigger movie overall. But eight weeks into its run, The Odyssey keeps climbing back on top.

The Odyssey Keeps Taking The Weekdays
The pattern is now clear. Spider-Man wins the weekends. The Odyssey takes the middle of the week.
Spider-Man held No. 1 from Friday through Labor Day. The very next day, The Odyssey went back to the top.
And it’s doing it with less. The Odyssey is playing in about 1,200 fewer theaters than Spider-Man.
The reason is simple: its audience isn’t going anywhere. Spider-Man’s Tuesday fell off much harder than The Odyssey‘s did from a week earlier.
Nolan movies do this. Oppenheimer played deep into the fall of 2023, and The Odyssey — a nearly three-hour, R-rated Homer adaptation — is on the same path.

Still Carrying The Box Office Past Summer
The bigger story is what these two movies are doing together.
Labor Day marks the end of the summer movie season. The first Tuesday after it, the two biggest movies in the country are still the two that opened back in July.
Since Spider-Man arrived on July 31, only a single day has seen any other movie at No. 1 on the dailies. Every other day belonged to Spider-Man or The Odyssey.
The totals show the scale.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has passed $925 million domestic and $2.4 billion worldwide.
The Odyssey is closing in on $600 million domestic and sits at $1.6 billion worldwide.
Now comes their first real September challenge. Practical Magic 2 opens Friday and is projected to hand Spider-Man its first weekend loss since it opened.
