Star Wars fans holding out for Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 just got a reality check straight from Ewan McGregor: nothing is happening.
McGregor let it slip while sitting down with Anne Hathaway for Esquire’s “Inquiring Minds” video series, a meme-themed Q&A the pair filmed while promoting their new movie, The End of Oak Street, which is tracking for an August breakout.
Nothing’s Really Moving On Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2
Hathaway got the ball rolling by telling McGregor she wants in on his hoped-for return: “That’d be kind of cool. I kind of want to join you on your quest for Yoda in this future quest.”
With a laugh, McGregor made it plain where things actually stand: “Now that you’ve said that, that might help us get it done, you know, because up to this point, nothing’s really moving on that front.”
That was followed by a direct appeal to Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro: “Come on, Josh, let’s go.”
The update caps off nearly two years of stop-and-start signals. Back in October 2024, McGregor teased Obi-Wan Season 2. By June 2025, Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 was rumored to be moving forward. Then last August came word that Ahsoka Season 2 features no Ewan McGregor Obi-Wan.
Now, a year later, McGregor says the needle still hasn’t moved.
It’s not for a lack of story.
Asked later in the video what part of Obi-Wan’s journey feels unfinished, McGregor pointed to the gap between the Disney+ series and Alec Guinness: “Well, everything between the end of the TV series that we did and Alec Guinness. So, there’s 10 years of something happening to Obi-Wan.”
The series famously ends with Obi-Wan leaving young Luke on Tatooine and riding off with Qui-Gon Jinn’s Force ghost.
The timing makes the silence louder.
McGregor’s comments arrive one day after Disney admitted The Mandalorian and Grogu flopped at the box office, with the studio touting toys and theme parks instead of tickets.
Meanwhile, Obi-Wan Kenobi delivered the most-watched Disney+ original series premiere ever at the time of its 2022 debut, and a follow-up still can’t get a green light.
Anne Hathaway Wants To Play Anakin’s Secret Daughter
The Obi-Wan talk grew out of Hathaway casting herself in a galaxy far, far away.
“If I joined the Star Wars universe, who would I play? I could be a sort of Carrie Fisher’s secret sister,” she offered, with McGregor responding, “She was one of my favorite people in the world. So, you could be her sister.”
Hathaway knows her lore, immediately spotting the canon problem: “So, Amidala couldn’t have had another baby. So, am I like Anakin’s evil daughter?”
“Oh, that’d be interesting. I kind of like that,” McGregor said.
“So I’m Luke and Leia’s half-sister,” Hathaway concluded, with McGregor agreeing, “Yeah, there you go. That would be interesting.”
Frankly, Anakin Skywalker’s secret evil daughter is a more exciting pitch than most of what Lucasfilm currently has on the board. Over to you, Josh.
