New Superman Man of Steel 2013 Image & Zack Snyder Says No To Kryptonite

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:6793:]]New Superman Henry Cavill graces a new magazine cover as the Man of Steel is almost two months away from blasting off.

In addition to the new Superman image that’s on the cover of Entertainment Weekly‘s Summer Preview issue, we learn some more details from director Zack Snyder about Man of Steel.

“I’ll be honest with you, there’s no Kryptonite in the movie,” Snyder told EW.

Kryptonite, of course, is the meteor rock from Superman’s home planet of Krypton that has made its way to Earth which depletes his super powers and causes him harm.

It was previously thought black Kryptonite might have been featured in the Man of Steel as set images seemingly revealed them, but it looks as if that guess was wrong.

So without that weakness, just what will hurt a super man?

Henry Cavill offers that while it might be difficult to get to Superman physically, psychological and emotional aspects are another story.

“Although he is not susceptible to the frailties of mankind, he is definitely susceptible to the emotional frailties,” Cavill offered.

Amy Adams even offers that her version of Lois Lane might share something in common with this version of Clark Kent.

“I think she’s very transient. She’s ready to pick up and go at a moment’s notice. I think that definitely could be part of what she sees in Superman — not really laying down roots, not developing trust,” she said.

Producer Charles Roven, who also worked on Christopher Nolan’s Batman films, added that just because it’s Superman doesn’t mean the movie will just be about special effects to wow an audience. Man of Steel will get movie goers emotionally invested as well.

“You want to give the audience great spectacle. You want them to go to the movie, be eating their popcorn and be like, ‘Wow!’” Roven told EW. “But it’s just not good enough to give them the ‘Wow.’ You want them to be emotionally engaged. Because if you just have the ‘wow,’ ultimately you get bludgeoned by that and you stop caring.”

Man of Steel opens June 14th in IMAX 3D directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman and Michael Shannon as Zod.
