Paramount+ has finally set a return date for MobLand, and it comes with a familiar face still attached.
The Tom Hardy crime drama premieres its second season on Sept. 18, with Hardy confirmed to reprise his role as fixer Harry Da Souza.
What the streamer did not announce is a third season, and after months of reported friction behind the scenes, that omission says more than the press release does.

MobLand Season 2 Premiere Date and Story
Paramount+ confirmed the Sept. 18 launch on Thursday alongside a fresh synopsis.
Season 2 finds the Harrigans, the crime family that runs North London, struggling to hold a united front as rival outfits move in on their fractured empire. Da Souza is left to keep the family from splintering as loyalties collapse and the violence bleeds into every part of their lives.
Hardy leads a returning cast that includes Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan as the heads of the organized crime dynasty at the center of the war. Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Mandeep Dhillon, Jasmine Jobson, Geoff Bell, Daniel Betts, Lisa Dwan and Emily Barber are also back.
The series comes from showrunner Ronan Bennett and Guy Ritchie, with Jez Butterworth, David Glasser, Kris Thykier, Ivan Atkinson and Hardy himself among the executive producers. It films across the U.K. through Glasser’s 101 Studios.
What the Season 2 Trailer Shows
The accompanying trailer leans hard into the civil war framing, arriving with the on-set rumors still hanging over the production. The Harrigans are billed as North London’s largest criminal empire and painted as ripe for the picking as rivals begin to circle.
Hardy’s Da Souza admits the last 24 hours have not gone his way and that he is under serious pressure. It is the same setup that made the first season work, with the fixer positioned as the only thing standing between the family and total collapse.
The Tom Hardy Season 3 Question Paramount+ Won’t Answer
Here is where the announcement gets conspicuous. MobLand still has not been renewed for a third season, and Hardy’s involvement beyond Season 2 remains unconfirmed. Production on a potential Season 3 would resume later this year if the renewal comes.
The uncertainty traces back to a rough stretch on the Season 2 set. Hardy’s on-set behavior reportedly spooked producers, with The Hollywood Reporter noting he clashed with Butterworth and others at 101 Studios. Those exit rumors were tied to reshoots, and the situation escalated to the point that reports had Hardy fired from Season 3 entirely.
Then the story reversed. Hardy reportedly settled his beef and was back in for a potential third season, a turnaround that followed a charm offensive sit-down and Hardy publicly addressing the fan backlash. Somewhere in the middle of all of it, he even leaned into a rap album while the drama played out.
Why MobLand Can’t Afford to Lose Tom Hardy
The math on MobLand is not complicated. Hardy is the show. His name drives the marketing, and we have laid out before why the series is likely dead without him. Mirren has already spoken up in support of his return, and the entire Season 2 campaign is built around Da Souza as the load-bearing character.
That is what makes the Season 3 silence worth noting. If the producer relationship were truly repaired, confirming the renewal alongside a premiere date would have been the easy win. Paramount+ chose instead to lock in Season 2, push the trailer, and say nothing about what comes next.
The streamer renewed MobLand for a second season quickly once the numbers justified it. The refusal to commit to a third, even after the reported peace deal, reads less like a formality and more like a hedge.
Season 2 arrives Sept. 18. Whether Hardy is still Harry Da Souza a year from now is the question Paramount+ left hanging, and until there is a renewal in writing, treating the truce as settled would be premature.
