Paramount+ has renewed MobLand for a third season, with Tom Hardy set to return as fixer Harry Da Souza alongside Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren as crime family heads Conrad and Maeve Harrigan.
The announcement comes just over two weeks before the Season 2 premiere on Sept. 18 — and it settles the one thing Paramount+ wouldn’t say in July, when the streamer set the Season 2 date without a word about a third season.
The Renewal Ends A Summer Of Exit Drama
The renewal closes out one of the messier behind-the-scenes stories of the year.
It started when Puck News reported Hardy had been fired from Season 3 following clashes on the Season 2 set, with THR reporting the actor butted heads with executive producer Jez Butterworth and others at 101 Studios. Reports claimed Hardy’s behavior left the cast waiting on set for hours, a replacement was reportedly being eyed, and the exit rumors doubled down with claims his departure could cost Paramount+ millions in reshoots.
Then the story flipped. Fan backlash put pressure on the streamer, Helen Mirren said she would work with Hardy again “in a f—ing heartbeat,” and Hardy sat down with the studio in London for a “charm offensive” meeting. By the end of June, Deadline reported Hardy was back for Season 3. Somewhere in the middle of all of it, he announced a rap album.
The missing piece was the renewal itself, which never came when the premiere date was set. It’s easy to see why Paramount+ got there: the series launched as the biggest premiere week in Paramount+ history, hit 26 million viewers to earn its Season 2 order, and as we’ve laid out, the show doesn’t work without Hardy.
MobLand Season 2 Premieres Sept. 18
Season 2 debuts Sept. 18 on Paramount+, with the ten episodes rolling out weekly on Fridays through the Nov. 20 finale.
The new season picks up with the Harrigans unable to hold a unified front as rivals move in on their fractured empire. Da Souza walks a dangerous line as tensions inside the family boil over, loyalties snap, and the fight for power turns bloodier.
Along with Hardy, Brosnan, and Mirren, Season 2 stars Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Mandeep Dhillon, Jasmine Jobson, Teddie Allen, Emmett J. Scanlan, Johnny Flynn, Ophelia Lovibond, Janet McTeer, and Toby Jones.
