Jeremy Renner has confirmed that production is officially finished on Mayor of Kingstown Season 5, the eight-episode final season of the Paramount+ crime drama.
“Today our production closes down for our Season 5 of Mayor of Kingstown,” Renner wrote on Instagram last week as filming came to a close. “Today we celebrate. Today we are filled with gratitude.”
Renner also thanked the cast and crew “for carrying me through when necessary,” a reference to the recovery he has been managing on set ever since his 2023 snowplow accident.

Filming wrapped in Pittsburgh after four months
Production began in Pittsburgh back in March, which puts the final season at roughly a four-month shoot.
David Morse joined the last season as series regular Russell Hardy, the FBI agent who arrives in Kingstown following Tracy’s murder. His investigation is the engine of the final eight episodes, with Edie Falco back as Warden Nina Hobbs alongside the returning core cast and Nestor Carbonell recurring.
Renner already told fans where this is heading. “No one is safe this season. I mean Nobody!” he posted in early June as filming entered its final stretch.
The numbers tell you why it’s really ending
Officially, Paramount+ confirmed Season 5 as the final season back in January. But look at what came attached to that renewal.
The episode order was cut from ten to eight, and an end date was handed to a series that co-creator Hugh Dillon has said Taylor Sheridan had mapped out through Season 7.
The audience data explains the rest. Per Nielsen figures reported by Deadline, Season 4 never cracked the weekly Top 10 for streaming originals. Landman and Tulsa King both charted during the same window, with Landman running as a Top 3 series overall.
For a show as expensive to produce as a Sheridan drama, that gap is the whole ballgame.
It also lines up with our earlier reporting on the Paramount+ fallout with Taylor Sheridan. Mayor of Kingstown is the first ongoing Sheridan series to get an end date since the Skydance takeover, while Landman, Tulsa King, and Lioness all landed new seasons.
With Sheridan heading to NBCUniversal, the math is simple under David Ellison’s spreadsheet-first Paramount. The shows that pay their way survive the transition. The ones that don’t get an ending.
What’s next for Jeremy Renner
With Kingstown in the can, the question becomes Marvel. Renner remains unconfirmed for Avengers: Doomsday, which hits theaters this December, and he spent the last year publicly denying any involvement.
The Hawkeye Season 2 standoff has also never been resolved, as Renner said on the record that Disney offered him half his original salary and he told the “penny pinchers” to go fly a kite.
Worth noting: his December repost of the Doomsday poster, something only confirmed cast members had done, remains the one tea leaf pointing the other way. Consider that one rumor territory for now.
Paramount+ has not announced a premiere date for the final season, with late 2026 or early 2027 the expected window. Seasons 1 through 4 of Mayor of Kingstown are streaming now on Paramount+.
