Eighteen days out from launch, Insomniac Games emptied the filing cabinet on Marvel’s Wolverine with a new Features Trailer narrated by Liam McIntyre, backed by a PlayStation Blog breakdown covering combat systems, suits, collectibles, and everything waiting at launch.
It also lands two weeks after viral clips tried to paint the gameplay as hold-forward-and-mash, a pile-on that had Insomniac’s community boss calling it “a relentless onslaught.”
The trailer’s rebuttal is depth: four equippable Special Techniques, dozens of Adaptations, and a three-tier Rage system.
Tornado Spins, Knee Breakers, And Three Tiers Of Rage
The combat pitch is aggressive momentum.
Logan gets in close and opens fights with claws, kicks, barrages, and critical strikes before layering in rechargeable Special Techniques like Tornado Spin, Knee Breaker, and Spiral Strike, with four equipped at once.
On top of that sit Adaptations, passive tuning options that let you absorb more bullets, widen parry windows, or terrorize enemies mid-fight. Insomniac says there are dozens of them.
Then there’s Rage, now detailed as a three-tier pool of adrenaline built around survivability, resilience, and fury, in that order.
Make a last stand and fight another day, or go berserk and keep killing to sustain it. That expands on the system Sony teased when it showed the berserk system at June’s State of Play.
Too Few Mutants For An X-Men Team
The story setup puts Bolivar Trask at the center, hellbent on executing his plans against mutantkind while Logan, Jean Grey, and members of Team X work to sever them.
The blog also drops the clearest lore explanation yet for the no-X-Men question.
This is a world with “too few mutants to form safe havens or organized heroic ensembles,” and Insomniac calls it a critical moment for mutant survival. The team you get is the team that’s left.
That’s the answer behind the Team X confusion Insomniac spent last week correcting on social media, and it matches the “imminent extinction” framing on the D23 sizzle. Omega Red and Deathstrike get name-checked as villains waiting on the world tour.
Old Man Logan, Patch, And Whisky Bottle Memories
Between fights, Logan can use his senses to find Nightmare Doors hiding combat and traversal challenges, listen for material crates that feed suit crafting, and sniff out collectible whisky bottles that unlock his forgotten memories.
Yes, the memory collectible in a Wolverine game is whisky.
The suit closet covers Insomniac’s original Battle Reborn design plus looks inspired by Weapon X, Old Man Logan, Ultimate Wolverine, and Patch, down to civilian staples like a tank top and leather jacket, with cowls and hats you can toggle on or off.
Suits carry health upgrades, and new claw types unlock along the way: bone, notched, curved, reflective, and angled.
Insomniac also tucked in a tip for day one. Popping the claws outside of combat is L2 plus R2.
New Game Plus On Day One
Logan’s Nightmare Cabin houses the launch feature set.
New Game Plus is there from the start with exclusive Techniques and raised level caps, alongside Mission Replay, score-chasing Nightmare Challenges, and a Photo Mode arriving via day one update.
The game ships with more than 100 new, returning, and improved accessibility features carried over from previous Insomniac games, including High Contrast visuals, English Audio Description, Global Game Speed, and Strong Haptic Signals.
And Insomniac isn’t softening the pitch, calling the game “unapologetically violent and gory” by nature of the character while adding new toggles that alter dynamic blood and dismemberment, plus an English-only adult language filter for players who want the option.
Marvel’s Wolverine launches September 15, 2026, exclusively on PlayStation 5. Pre-orders are live on the PlayStation Store, through PS Direct, and at retail, including a Digital Deluxe Edition carrying exclusive suits, claws, and bonuses.
