Marvel’s Zodiac Series Said To Be A TV-MA, X-Files-Style Spy Show With MCU Guest Stars

UPDATE: Marvel made it official at NYCC. Zodiac hits Disney+ in 2028, details here.

Marvel’s next Disney+ series may already be taking shape.

As part of its report that Daredevil: Born Again is ending with Season 3, The Hollywood Reporter revealed Marvel Studios just greenlit a new spy thriller referred to as Zodiac.

THR didn’t have much beyond the greenlight, but the X account that first leaked the show did.

X scooper Doom’s Servant has been posting details on the project since September 7 and dropped more within the last day. Here’s everything the leaks say.

TV-MA And Led By Brand-New Characters

“It’s an X-Files style, episodic show that will be lead by 2-3 characters new to the MCU that have potentially little to no history in the comics,” Doom’s Servant posted.

“It is being developed to be rated TV-MA,” the scooper continued.

The series is also “designed to fit in the background of the MCU and pick up, explore and expand stories and characters that haven’t been used for a minute as well as introducing new corners to the universe,” per the same post.

Big names would swing by, too, as Doom’s Servant’s original September 7 post said the show “is being created with the goal of allowing characters within the MCU to guest star.”

That post also mentioned a second unannounced Marvel series that “seems to be a bigger scale” show, with the plan being that the two “would be released annually.”

The September 7 post also put Daredevil Season 4 at “50/50,” and per THR, Born Again is now ending after Season 3.

Nick Fury’s Brother Leads Zodiac In The Comics

THR notes it’s unclear what the Zodiac title refers to, but Marvel Comics fans know the name.

In the comics, Zodiac is a costumed crime cartel of twelve villains modeled on the astrological signs, with Scorpio calling the shots.

Scorpio was famously unmasked as Jake Fury, brother of Nick Fury, and the group spent years tangling with S.H.I.E.L.D.

With the leads said to be new characters carrying little to no comics history, though, the name may be more of a starting point than a straight adaptation of the villain team.

Still, there is one Zodiac character who would slide right in: Max Fury.

Max Fury started out as a Life Model Decoy of Nick Fury, one of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s android body doubles. This particular prototype was a synthetic man rather than a robot.

Jake Fury stole the decoy, and Zodiac used the Zodiac Key to reprogram it with all of Nick Fury’s memories. The copy became convinced it was the real Nick Fury, and every time S.H.I.E.L.D. proved otherwise, its mind reset and went right back to believing it.

The character goes back to 1977’s Defenders as the rogue Fury decoy, with Ed Brubaker turning him into Max Fury in 2010’s Secret Avengers #1.

The timing works, too: VisionQuest and Paul Bettany’s synthetic Vision arrive first in October with the MCU AIs as humans, so a synthetic Fury questioning his own memories wouldn’t be coming out of nowhere.

An NYCC Reveal — With A Different Name

Marvel is reportedly planning to make it official next month.

“Marvel will announce ‘Zodiac’ (which I hear isn’t the title) at NYCC,” posted Doom’s Servant in the newest update.

The same post says Marvel will also announce Marvel Zombies returning for Season 2 in 2027 at the con.

Doom’s Servant added he has “heard some whispers of a new animated series announcement along with reveal of another Giacchino directed special being announced but cannot confirm,” so file those under rumor for now.

New York Comic Con runs October 8-11 at the Javits Center, so the official announcement — and the show’s real name — could be just weeks away.
