If there is any character in the Marvel Studios treasure chest deserving of a movie it has to be Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston.
Tom Hiddleston, a 32-year-old Westminster, UK native, was cast as the diabolical trickster in Thor four years ago having previously worked with director Kennth Branagh in Wallander.
He went on to voice the character in the related video game tie-in as well as appearing as the main villain in The Avengers.
Tom Hiddleston will also be returning in this November’s Thor: The Dark World with it recently learned that director Alan Taylor added additional scenes as the request of Marvel Studios.
Most recently, Hiddleston also hinted that Loki’s next appearance depended on the events in Thor 2, leading to speculation of the actor appearing in The Avengers 2.
Marvel Studios also featured the actor at Comic-Con where Tom Hiddleston role-played as Loki live for the audience and those at home (see video below).
Arguably, Hiddleston is the second most-favorite-Marvel-Studios-actor, trailing behind Robert Downey Jr., and has also amassed quite the online following with fans known as “Loki’s Army” as well as a petition drive to get the actor his own movie, with the campaign dubbed “Free Loki.”
It was also announced today that Marvel Studios will be launching a Loki viral Twitter campaign – not Thor – using, interestingly enough, a #freeLoki hashtag.
While we are guessing the Loki viral campaign is just a promotion for Thor 2, Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige can’t be blind to the popularity of Hiddleston as the additional Thor 2 scenes seem to suggest.
Currently, Marvel Studios and Disney do have dates blocked off for two unnounced movies set for May 6, 2015 and May 5, 2017 — most likely The Avengers-related — but more dates for the coming years will definitely be announced with most speculating films for Black Panther and Doctor Strange. A Loki movie certainly can’t be overlooked.
Should Marvel Studios go forth with a Tom Hiddleston Loki movie? Or have you had your fill with Thor, The Avengers and the upcoming Thor 2? Let us know in the comments below.
Tom Hiddleston also voices Captain Hook for Disney in the 2014 Tinker Bell and the Pirate Fairy animated movie and has the lead in Muppets Most Wanted as Great Escapo.
“I feel like Thor: The Dark World is a chance as an actor to find new depth, new dimension, new iterations of Loki’s psychology, of his physicality and his capacity for feeling. On one level he is an off- the-rails psychopathic agent of chaos, but on a human level, his psychology and his emotional landscape is very, very interesting because he’s so intelligent and yet so broken. This film is a chance to find where his capacity for heroism and his Machiavellian menace meet.” – Tom Hiddleston via one8one
