Update: Marvel Editor Stephen Wacker has taken to his Twitter account to update that the project is still apparently underway — that they “jumped the gun a bit.”
But this editor will say in his 4+ years of covering comic book news that I have never heard of Marvel announcing a new comic book in the likes of USA Today, pulling it, and saying they “jumped the gun a bit.”
However, credit to Mr. Wacker as an editor, if he feels they need to go back and work on it – or what have you – all the better for everyone.
Maybe getting Mr. Starlin involved?
Original Story:
Apparently Marvel has cancelled the Thanos: Son Of Titan mini-series that was to delve into the Mad Titan’s origin.
The five issue mini was to debut in October from Joe Keatinge and Richard Elson.
However, Bleeding Cool reports that retailers received the following from Diamond:
THANOS SON OF TITAN #1 (OF 5) & VAR (AUG120580-1, $2.99, FOC 09/24/12) has been cancelled.
No further information is known, but when the series was announced Thanos creator Jim Starlin seemed none to happy, posting on his Facebook asking if Marvel Comics Editor Stephen Wacker had ever read any of his Thanos stories prior to Infinity Gauntlet.
In addition, there has been some talk that Jim Starlin may be filing a lawsuit against Disney and Marvel over the rights of Thanos.
September will also see reprints of classic Thanos stories by Jim Starlin and Ron Lim from Marvel as well.
The popularity of Thanos surged when the big cosmic baddie appeared in a post-credit scene in The Avengers movie, and Thanos has also been rumored to play the major villain in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
