Kevin Feige Pokes At DC, Says “There Are None Better Than The Marvel Characters”

Kevin Feige could not resist taking a poke at DC while celebrating Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s $927 million global opening.

Speaking with Variety, Feige was asked how the movie rose to that level of popularity.

The outlet noted the debuts of Brand New Day and Avengers: Endgame stand $100 million above the next-biggest opening weekends of all time.

Feige started with the filmmakers.

“It’s a testament to [director] Destin Daniel Cretton, Tom Holland, and [producer] Amy Pascal. And [Sony Pictures chairman] Tom Rothman, for letting us do this four times now — working to bring Spidey to the screen,” Feige told Variety.

Then came the shot across town.

“It’s a testament to what Stan Lee and Steve Ditko created all those years ago,” Feige continued.

“People can write about changing tastes, but as characters that grow and evolve through the decades, there are none better than the Marvel characters — and none better than Peter Parker.”

“When you find an actor like Tom Holland to bring that character to life, it is the magic formula.”

Spider Man Brand New Day Still

Feige Didn’t Name DC. He Didn’t Have To.

“None better than the Marvel characters” lands in exactly one place.

The Distinguished Competition just watched its two biggest characters, Superman and Supergirl, get outgrossed by a single Spider-Man weekend.

Brand New Day‘s opening beat every DC movie James Gunn has made combined.

And the “changing tastes” line is the kicker. That is the polite version of the superhero fatigue excuse that gets trotted out every time a Gunn DCU movie flops.

As we have said all along, superhero fatigue is a myth.

Audiences did not change. DC stopped giving them a reason to show up, and the second Peter Parker came back, the whole planet bought a ticket.

Feige’s characters “grow and evolve through the decades.”

Gunn’s DC is on its second reboot in a decade, still cannot cast a Batman, and is sitting in neutral while the Paramount merger fight plays out in court.

Even Zack Snyder Is Getting Floated At Marvel

Want to know how lopsided Marvel vs DC has gotten?

The latest rumor claims Feige is interested in Zack Snyder, the one director DC fans never stopped fighting for.

That one is unconfirmed, but as we broke down, it follows what our insiders told us months ago about ideas being thrown around for a Marvel vs. DC film.

And it lands while everything at DC is frozen until the merger trial.

The director who built the SnyderVerse getting floated at Marvel while DC cannot greenlight a thing tells you which side of the street the sun is shining on.

Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters this December.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Tom Holland, is now in theaters. DC’s answer does not arrive until Man of Tomorrow next summer.
