Reports Kathleen Kennedy Is Exiting Lucasfilm ‘May Be Jumping The Gun’

Following the big news that Kathleen Kennedy is supposed to exit Star Wars and Lucasfilm and retire by the end of 2025, it’s now claimed those reports could be in error.

What’s now said about Kennedy?

The latest comes from CNN of all places that says, “But reports that Kathleen Kennedy will retire at the end of her contract may be jumping the gun.”

The site adds that a “source familiar with the matter tells CNN that’s not the case, emphasizing that ‘there’s nothing there right now.’”

Kennedy, Disney, and Lucasfilm have yet to officially comment.

CNN adds that if an announcement is coming, that it will be made “public” when “actual decisions are made.”

Variety says more of the same

In Variety‘s report, the outlet also said, “A separate source close to Kennedy, however, dismissed the initial report by Puck as ‘pure speculation’ and said nothing has been decided.

Kathleen Kennedy Done At Star Wars, Lucasfilm End Of 2025

Damage control

The trades have reported the official announcement is expected at Star Wars Celebration in April. If Kathleen Kennedy is indeed retiring, it sounds like the news leaked early and Kennedy, Disney, and Lucasfilm are doing damage control.

However, as we all know, every other month it seems as if a new rumor surfaces that Kennedy is done at Disney and Lucasfilm. It’s actually been claimed that Kennedy was going to retire last year, but that she decided to stay on and finish her contract which I believe ends in 2025.

Lines up with Bob Iger’s exit as Disney may be righting its path

As I previously pointed out, news of Kennedy potentially retiring lines up with Bob Iger exiting Disney in 2026. I’m thinking Disney will have a new regime in charge and change direction. Marvel, apparently, has already started.
