Last year the new R-Rated Dredd movie debuted starring Karl Urban which received rave reviews from critics and fans alike.
However, for some reason generaul audiences didn’t seem to interested as the movie actually lost money at the box office.
Dredd reportedly had a budget of around $50 million, not that large by any means, but only netted $35 million.
Actually, here in the U.S., Dredd did really poor with only a measly $13.4 million.
However, Dredd may have found new life in the Blu-Ray release as well as the vocal fan following.
And Karl Urban recently said a Judge Dredd 2 is not entirely out of the question and is possible, as the actor recently spoke to screenwriter Alex Garland.
Via The Collider:
Interestingly enough, I did have breakfast with Alex Garland this morning. It’s not off the agenda. Clearly everyone has woken up to the fact that an audience has found this movie and loves it. It’s entirely possible, and if people want to see another installment then they should be vocal about that, because, it can happen. The power of fandom can resurrect projects. In fact, that’s what happened with Star Trek. They weren’t going to do a third season until fans did a letter writing campaign and they continued that series.
Perhaps a better PR campaign would have helped Dredd, or dare I say it, a PG-13 rating?
