Joss Whedon Would Love To Do Firefly After The Avengers 2

Fans have been waiting a decade for more of anything from Joss Whedon and his cult-hit show Firefly and subsequent movie, Serenity.

Though Fox and Warner Bros. only aired the series for one year – and out of order – the sci-fi group of rag tag space adventurers has amassed quite the following, which stars fan-favorite Nathan Fillion.

So is there any hope of any kind of revival?

The Science Channel did just film and televise a special documentary, Brown Coats Unite, which was well-received as was the cast of Firefly and Joss Whedon at the recent Comic-Con.

A reporter for the Toronto Sun happens to be a fan of Firefly as well and asked Whedon about it.

While Whedon says he would love to do more, and mentions after The Avengers 2, it seems almost an uphill battle.

Fox still owns the rights apparently, and as the Toronto Sun mentions, execs often like to sit on defunct concepts and series.

However, with Whedon’s newly found stature in Hollywood, it definitely can’t be ruled out.

“Well, you know, it’s something I would love to do,” Whedon said. “Part of me is like, ‘God, it would be great when I finish Avengers 2 to do that.”

But as the Star notes, the odds don’t look that good to see the return of Captain Mal and crew.

“I suspect very strongly that after Avengers 2 the next thing I do will be a one-man show,” Whedon said. “Possibly one monkey.”

Episodes of Firefly and Serenity can be watched on Netflix. Be sure to check it out if you haven’t done so. The series also stars Gina Torres, Alan Tudyk, Morena Baccarin, Adam Baldwin, Summer Glau, Sean Maher, Jewel Staite and Barney Miller‘s Ron Glass.
