If you have been following all the Fantastic Four news, this shouldn’t come to that much of a surprise, especially considering no costumes will be used and they won’t be referring to the characters as the Fantastic Four. You could also arguably add to that the casting of Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm aka The Human Torch.
In the latest issue of Esquire Latinoamerica, Kate Mara, who is playing Sue Storm, says (translated via Google) they won’t be using anything from the Marvel comic books.
I’ve never been a fan of comics, I’ve never actually read one. I was going to for this movie but the director said it wasn’t necessary. Well, actually he told us that we shouldn’t do it because the plot won’t be based on any history of anything already published. So I chose to follow his instructions. The one fact is I am a fan of comic book movies, so it’s very exciting to be part of a movie like this.
It’s currently rumored that there is some heat between Disney and Fox, with it even said things are going so far that Marvel is cancelling their Fantastic Four and X-Men comics.
It can’t be all that bad, though, as Disney did announce Josh Trank on a Star Wars spinoff, mentioning the FF movie in the process.
Update: Reps for Kate Mara are stating she told the reporter something different.
“Fantastic Four” has a June 19, 2015 release directed by Josh Trank starring Miles Teller as Reed Richards, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm, Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm, Kate Mara as Sue Storm and Toby Kebbell as Victor von Doom.
