Jonathan Frakes Wants To Direct Star Trek 3

Roberto Orci recently stepped down from directing Star Trek 3 teasing they are looking for someone with a bigger chair.

Now “Number One” has stepped up to answer the call as Jonathan Frakes, Commander William Riker in Star Trek: The Next Generation, wants to direct Star Trek 3.

Komo News Radio spoke with Frakes as the actor is due to appear at a local Star Trek convention that sees the cast of ST: TNG reunite.

“Hashtag, BringInRiker! Hashtag, BringInRiker!” Frakes enthusiastically said. “I’m all over it. I’m all over it.”

Jonathan Frakes is no stranger to being behind a camera as he has directed episodes of Star Trek, directed the 1996 Star Trek: First Contact film and the 1998 Star Trek: Insurrection movie, and recently directed episodes of The Librarians, Falling Skies and Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.

“I have already contacted JJ [Abrams]. I already have my agents stirring the pot. I would love that job,” Frakes offered. “I say, unabashedly, I’d be great at it and would love to do it. I am secretly trying to keep a lid on how I am excited about the possibilitknowing it’s such a long shot. But there’s nothing I would like better.”

Orci and Abrams are on Star Trek 3 as producers, with it said Paramount is aiming for the third movie to have a 2016 release, which is the 50th anniversary of the franchise.
