Variety has it that Warner Bros. is eyeing Joaquin Phoenix for the main villain role in Batman Vs. Superman which is speculated to be Lex Luthor.

It’s noted that Joaquin Phoenix is currently starring in Her for Warner Bros. and has gained a lot of notoriety for the role.

The report notes that the talks are still very early on in the process and Phoenix might not even take the role because he stays away from the big movie roles.

Also on our list: Jake Gyllenhaal, Armie Hammer, Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt (since named for Sandman) and Matt Damon.

“Batman Vs Superman” has a July 17, 2015 release starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.
