Kudos to Doug Smith of the NovaPrimePage for asking Jeph Loeb some questions that have all been on our minds and questions that none of Marvel’s PR websites have ever thought – or were allowed – to ask.
Head on over to Doug’s site to read the full interview, but one particular statement caught my eye from Jeph Loeb.
He says that Richard Rider’s story has concluded when asked about NINO Nova being compared to Kyle Rayner.
We never set out to replace Rich Rider. He is not Kyle Rayner who lived in the shadow of Hal Jordan from the beginning. Rich Rider’s fantastic story was told and concluded and we’re respectful of that and his loyal fans. This is a story about Sam Alexander and what happens when he inherits the mantle of this wonderful creation. As a fan, NOVA as a character deserves to have a monthly comic that resonates with all the Marvel Universe. We hope Sam achieves this, not only here, but in other books as well (like the AVENGERS).
And there you have it Richard Rider Nova fans.
Sam Alexander is not a legacy character and Richard Rider’s story is over.
And Marvel EIC Axel Alonso says Sam is Spider-Man while laughing.
If you are a long time reader of our site, you know our stance on this, but I’ll leave you with some wise wisdom from Joe Quesada — let your wallets to the talking.
