Jean-Claude Van Damme is returning to Kickboxer, the movie that kickstarted it all for the Belgium-born martial artist.

THR reports a Kickboxer remake is in the works in which this time around, Jean-Claude Van Damme will play the master as Thai action star, Tony Jaa, has dropped out of the film due to apparent scheduling conflicts.

Also starring in the Kickboxer remake is Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), who recently mentioned he finished filming on the film and was excited to see news of Jean-Claude Van Damme’s involvement.

The Kickboxer remake follows Kurt Sloan (played by X-Men: Days Of Future Past‘s Alain Moussi), a martial artist who travels to Thailand where he avenges his brother’s death at the hands of Tong Po (Bautista).

It’s stated Van Damme will play a new version of Master Chow who teaches Sloan the ways of the kickboxer.

The Kickboxer remake is being directed by John Stockwell also starring the UFC’s Georges St. Pierre, who recently played Batroc in Captain America 2.

The original Kickboxer debuted in 1989.
