UPDATE: A new rumor now offers a reason for the Part II delay, pointing to rewrites that added Robin, more Penguin, and Joker.
The internet spent Thursday convinced Matt Reeves is secretly shooting The Batman Part III alongside Part II. James Gunn needed three words to kill it.
During his latest Threads Q&A session, a fan asked the DC Studios boss to settle it directly: “Can you confirm or deny The Batman PT 3 is filming simultaneously with PT 2? Many are running the story as fact.”
Gunn’s full reply: “I can deny.”
That makes two rumors Gunn has flattened on Threads in just over a week, after he told fans the DCU Batman casting reports were “de and bunked.”
Where The Rumor Came From
The back-to-back story didn’t come from a trade, a set leak, or anyone attached to the production.
It traces back to a redesigned The Batman Part II logo image built around a Roman numeral III, shared by a fan site.
From there the theory wrote itself: the real reason Part II took four years to get in front of cameras is that Reeves was secretly mounting two movies as one giant production, the way the Matrix sequels, Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3, and Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame were shot.
Within hours, fan accounts and various sites were treating it as a done deal.
What’s Actually Filming
One Batman movie is in production, and it’s a loaded one.
Cameras have been rolling at Leavesden since June 12, with Robert Pattinson leading a cast that adds Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry, and Sebastian Koch to returning players Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Wright, and Andy Serkis.
The villain lineup is officially under wraps, though a mod-approved set leak claims Johansson is playing a grounded Poison Ivy; still a rumor, but one with more paperwork behind it than most.
What is confirmed, straight from Reeves: the new cowl has longer ears, and the sequel is shooting on custom Panavision anamorphic glass built specifically for the film.
