Jack Quaid sounds like a man saying goodbye.
Days after the My Adventures with Superman Season 3 finale, the voice of Clark Kent posted a thank-you on social media that reads a lot like a farewell: “Playing Clark has been the honor of a lifetime,” Quaid wrote, thanking everyone who watched Season 3, saying how much he loves the show, and hoping fans enjoyed the finale.
Nobody has canceled My Adventures with Superman, but nobody has renewed it either, and the goodbye-shaped messages are piling up right as the show’s parent studio loses its boss: Sam Register, an executive producer on the series and the longtime president of Warner Bros. Animation, is out after 18 years.
Season 4 Sits In Limbo
Showrunner Jake Wyatt laid out the situation ahead of the finale, confirming the series has not been renewed for a fourth season even though viewership hit a series high.
Wyatt said the show’s stakeholders — DC Studios, Adult Swim and HBO Max — have all been great to it, but that “each has to chart its own future in an uncertain, unstable climate,” adding elsewhere that if the show doesn’t come back, it won’t be for lack of support.
That climate has a name, and it’s the Paramount takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery.
Cartoon Network president Michael Ouweleen told Collider back in June that the studio didn’t know yet on Season 4, noting the series predates DC Studios and that the call now runs through James Gunn and Peter Safran, both credited as executive producers as of Season 3, with Gunn a known fan of the show.
And here’s the part that stings: Wyatt has said outlines for Seasons 3 and 4 were written and creatively approved years ago. The plan exists. The signature doesn’t.
A Finale Fans Fought Over
Season 3 wrapped August 15 with “The Return,” which put Superman back on the board in golden Kryptonian armor against the Eradicator, debuted Krypto, left Lex Luthor warning about something bigger waiting out in space, and ended with Lois proposing to Clark at the Kent farm, with Clark saying yes.
That set off the fanbase.
Plenty of longtime Superman fans hated that Lois was the one to pop the question, and the proposal instantly became the most argued-about choice the show has made.
It also came with the biggest audience the series has ever drawn; the interest is there even though the finale wasn’t loved.
Register Out, Spin-Off Still Moving
Which brings it back to the timing.
Register isn’t just the outgoing head of Warner Bros. Animation, he’s an executive producer on My Adventures with Superman itself, and he exits next week with a replacement search underway while the renewal decision hangs.
The studio that makes the show is about to be run by committee, in the middle of a company David Ellison is fighting to own. That’s the “uncertain, unstable climate” Wyatt is talking about.
Meanwhile, the universe itself isn’t dead: My Adventures with Green Lantern, the Jessica Cruz spin-off announced at the 2025 DC Studios event with Moana’s Auliʻi Cravalho voicing Cruz, is moving through production, with Wyatt saying earlier this year that the first episode was being shipped off for animation.
Cruz was introduced in Season 3 to set her up. A franchise with a spin-off in production and a flagship without a pickup is a strange place to be, and until someone at Warner Bros., or whoever owns it next, signs the paper, Quaid’s honor-of-a-lifetime message is going to keep reading like a goodbye.
