Inde Navarrette is having the kind of year Hollywood notices, and now she is saying the Marvel part out loud.
The breakout star of Obsession, the sub-$1 million horror film that stunned the industry, told NYLON she is open to a comic book movie. She also revealed she recently met with the filmmaker rebuilding one of Marvel’s biggest franchises.
In the interview published July 1, Navarrette listed her dream directors as Ryan Coogler, Greta Gerwig, Michael Mann, and Jake Schreier. She noted that she had met with Mann and Schreier recently.
Asked directly whether she would do a Marvel film, Navarrette did not dodge.
“I would,” she said.
Asked if she would return to horror, she added: “I would love to.”
That Jake Schreier Meeting Is The Part That Jumps Out
Schreier is not just another name on a dream-director list.
He directed Thunderbolts* for Marvel Studios in 2025, and he is now attached to direct the studio’s X-Men reboot.
Marvel boss Kevin Feige has publicly framed that reboot as a youth-focused reset. Feige has said the approach will show up in the mutant castings and in the tone of the film, with a younger group of characters at the center.
So yes, the connection is obvious.
A rising 25-year-old actress with a monster box office hit sitting down with the director of a youth-driven X-Men movie is exactly the kind of meeting that fuels casting talk.
From DC TV To A Possible Marvel Jump
Navarrette is not new to comic book properties.
She played Sarah Cortez across all four seasons of The CW’s Superman & Lois, the Warner Bros. Television series that ran from 2021 to 2024.
A jump from a DC show to a Marvel movie would put her in familiar territory. Plenty of actors have crossed that aisle before. What makes Navarrette’s case different is the leverage she is carrying into the room.
Obsession Changed The Conversation
Obsession is the reason this conversation is happening.
Director Curry Barker made the horror film for roughly $750,000, and Focus Features acquired it out of the 2025 Toronto festival for around $15 million.
The bet paid off in a way almost no one predicted.
Obsession has now pushed past $400 million worldwide, with more than $245 million of that coming from domestic theaters.
The records stacked up fast. It is Focus Features’ highest-grossing film ever. It passed The Blair Witch Project to become the highest-grossing festival acquisition of all time. It also overtook Sinners as the highest-grossing live-action English-language original film of the 2020s.
Audiences backed it too, with an A-minus CinemaScore and a Rotten Tomatoes score in the mid-90s.
That mix of price, profit, and reception is exactly why studios and casting directors are now paying attention.
Marvel Needs Exactly This Kind Of Heat
Here is the part that should not get lost: Navarrette is not a hopeful trying to audition from zero.
She is the face of one of the most profitable films of 2026, arriving at the exact moment Gen Z audiences have proven they will still show up in force for the right movie.
Obsession and Backrooms did not just make money. They wrecked the lazy industry assumption that younger viewers had walked away from theaters. The data says the opposite. And speaking of Backrooms, Jean Grey Famke Janssen just recommended Kane Parsons for X-Men.
If Marvel’s X-Men reboot is genuinely built around youth and fresh faces, as Feige keeps saying, then a bankable young actress who already met with Schreier is exactly the kind of profile that fits.
Navarrette Is Already Lining Up The Next Move
Navarrette is not slowing down.
She has the thriller Invertigo lined up, and she told NYLON she is shooting a film in September with a first-time director. Her Obsession performance has already drawn awards attention, including a Best Performance win at the Seattle International Film Festival.
Her stated goal is simple: prove Obsession was not lightning in a bottle.
A Marvel answer, a Schreier meeting, and a breakout box office smash suggest the industry is already betting she is right.
