IGN laid off an undisclosed number of staffers on September 14, with the cuts hitting editorial, video production, and hosting, according to Kotaku.
Among those let go are two of the site’s most recognizable faces: Brian Altano and Seth Macy.
Altano had been with IGN since 2009 and became one of the main hosts of the Beyond PlayStation podcast after Greg Miller and Colin Moriarty left the site. Macy was a senior editor on the commerce team and a regular host of Nintendo Voice Chat.
Macy confirmed his exit on X. IGN has not commented.
The full scale of the cuts is still unknown, though Kotaku’s sources say remote status and willingness to relocate may have factored into some of the decisions.
Let Go On One Of IGN’s Biggest Coverage Days
Senior tech coverage manager Bo Moore was also cut on the same day his team covered the launch of Valve’s Steam Frame.
“My team had a huge content day today on IGN, covering the launch of Valve’s Steam Frame. So this seems like a good time as any to say that I was affected by today’s layoffs,” Moore posted on Bluesky.
“My byline is only on one of the 7 stories we posted this morning, but I edited every one, worked late last week and logged on early this morning to make sure everything was on track for one of our biggest coverage days of the year,” he continued.
The timing didn’t go unnoticed elsewhere, either. Gaming host Parris Lilly pointed out that IGN staffers spent a week at Gamescom doing interviews and coverage, then came home and got laid off, calling it “nasty work by IGN.”
It follows IGN’s usual summer blitz, which included the site’s on-the-ground San Diego Comic-Con coverage — with Altano among the hosts fronting those interviews.
The layoffs also follow the release of Marvel’s Wolverine, where the outlet gave it a “6” out of 10 review.

IGN’s Union Says It Was ‘Blindsided’
The IGN Creators Guild says four union members were among those let go, along with more staffers outside the union.
“Today was an awful day at IGN,” the guild said in a statement, adding it was “blindsided” by the cuts.
“How many layoffs will occur before we no longer recognize the company we work for and the content that we make?” the statement continued.
The guild closed by saying it is “devastated, angry, and heartbroken” for its colleagues.
This is the second round of IGN layoffs this year. A smaller group, including engineers, was cut earlier this summer just days after IGN Live wrapped, and a guild member told Aftermath at the time that the company had “a habit of doing layoffs right after a successful event.”
Parent company Ziff Davis bought up Eurogamer, Rock Paper Shotgun, and other gaming sites in 2024 and has been making editorial cuts across the group ever since.
IGN’s last publisher, John Davison, left the company more than a year ago and has never been formally replaced.
