The herd is heading back to the big screen. Disney gave D23 an exclusive look at Ice Age: Boiling Point Friday night, with Queen Latifah and Denis Leary taking the stage ahead of the film’s February 5, 2027 theatrical release.
Disney also dropped a new character image, billing a dino-fied take on the franchise’s nut-obsessed Scrat as the jurassic sized new addition to the movie.
Leary teased the newcomer on stage, calling the film fun and scary with big action sequences and adding, “We needed a new companion.”
Latifah pointed out the cast has been voicing these characters for more than 20 years, per Brandon Davis, and the presentation included first look footage featuring the franchise’s new baby character.
Return To The Lost World
The film sends Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie, Buck and Scrat into never-before-seen stretches of the treacherous Lost World, the underground dinosaur realm first visited in Dawn of the Dinosaurs, in what Disney describes as a madcap adventure packed with dinosaurs and lava.
The first trailer, shown at CinemaCon back in April, revealed Scrat now has a baby, with the two fighting over an acorn before an erupting volcano sends them hopping across ice floes to survive.
Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Latifah, Leary and Simon Pegg all return, with The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild director John Donkin helming and franchise producer Lori Forte producing alongside Patrick Worlock.
First Ice Age Movie In Over A Decade
This marks the first theatrical Ice Age film since 2016’s Collision Course, which limped to $408.5 million worldwide as the franchise’s weakest entry.
It’s also the first Ice Age movie made without Blue Sky Studios, which Disney shuttered in 2021, with 20th Century Animation taking over after the Buck Wild spinoff went straight to Disney+ in 2022.
Still, the franchise has grossed over $3 billion worldwide across five films, so Disney clearly sees plenty of nuts left to gather.
Ice Age: Boiling Point hits theaters February 5, 2027.
