While promoting Real Steel in an interview with EW, Evangeline Lilly opened up about her character, one new to Folkien lore, Tauriel, in The Hobbit.

Tauriel is a Mirkwood elf, and one that sounds pretty bad a– in that!

Yes, she is a warrior. She’s actually the head of the Elven guard. She’s the big shot in the army. So she knows how to wield any weapon, but the primary weapons that she uses are a bow and arrow and two daggers. And she’s lethal and deadly. You definitely wouldn’t want to be caught in a dark alley next to Tauriel.

Evangeline Lilly, of course known for her role on ABC’s Lost, goes on to say that her character is more involved in the second Hobbit film, “There And Back.”

She comes into the first film near the end, and has a very small part to play. Her role in the second film is much more involved.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters December 14th, 2012 with the sequel, The Hobbit: There And Back, a year later on December 13th, 2013.

Ian McKellen returns as Gandalf the Grey with Martin Freeman playing Bilbo Baggins.

Also reprising their roles from “The Lord of the Rings” movies are: Cate Blanchett as Galadriel; Orlando Bloom as Legolas; Ian Holm as the elder Bilbo; Christopher Lee as Saruman; Hugo Weaving as Elrond; Elijah Wood as Frodo; and Andy Serkis as Gollum.
