Hayley Atwell Returning As Peggy Carter: Marvel’s Hall H Reveal Points To Doomsday

Peggy Carter is coming back.

Hayley Atwell appeared on stage at Marvel’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday night, where Marvel confirmed she is returning as Peggy Carter, per Total Film.

The announcement came during the Robert Downey Jr. portion of the evening, with RDJ on stage urging 7,000 mask-wearing fans to “join the family of Doom.” Marvel didn’t immediately spell out which project Atwell’s return is for, but with the Doomsday stretch of the panel underway and that movie built on three colliding universes, the writing is on the wall.

Which Peggy Are We Getting?

That’s the real question. Atwell’s Peggy has lived several lives across the MCU: the original Agent Carter of the Captain America films and her own series, the elderly Peggy who got her dance with Steve Rogers at the end of Avengers: Endgame, and Captain Carter, the super soldier variant Atwell voiced through What If…? before playing her in live action in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where Wanda cut her down with her own shield.

A multiverse movie gives Marvel room to bring back any of them, and after tonight’s variant-heavy teases, all options are on the table.

The Steve Rogers Of It All

Here’s the thread worth pulling: Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers is back in Doomsday, revealed in the official trailer. And earlier tonight, Marvel announced Avengers: Endgame, the movie that ends with Steve and Peggy’s dance, is returning to theaters September 25.

Marvel is putting Steve Rogers, Peggy Carter, and the movie where they finally got their life together all back in front of audiences in the same stretch of months. That’s not a coincidence, that’s a campaign.

Avengers: Doomsday opens December 18. Follow our live Hall H coverage for everything else announced tonight, including Ryan Gosling confirmed as Ghost Rider.
