UPDATE: Comic-Con has responded, and there is no apology in it. The organization claims every wristband holder in line by 7:30 a.m. got in, which fans on the ground dispute, and in 2017 the same failure got shut-out fans free badges. Hours before Marvel Studios takes the stage, Hall H has turned into a meltdown.
Fans on social media are reporting that Hall H hit capacity early Saturday, with longtime line-waiters, including some who camped overnight or for days, being turned away despite holding Comic-Con’s official first-seating wristbands.
The complaints piling up on X include claims of line cutters and people without wristbands getting inside while wristband holders were shut out, security refusing to let people in the Hall H line leave to use restrooms, and concessions inside the hall closing for long stretches. These are fan reports and Comic-Con has not issued a statement, but the volume of complaints is hard to miss.
‘No One Is Getting Into The Marvel Panel’
The story has now jumped from fan complaints to press coverage.
Film Threat founder Chris Gore called the situation a debacle, flatly posting that “no one is getting into the Marvel panel.” Film Threat also has video from the scene, framing what’s happening outside the hall as a full-on “line revolt” over the Marvel panel.
Adding fuel to the fire: reports out of San Diego claim hundreds of Hall H seats, 397 by one count, are being held for Marvel VIP guests. Those numbers remain unconfirmed, but for fans standing outside with official wristbands after camping for days, they land like a slap.
The Math Problem
Here’s the structural issue nobody at Comic-Con wants to say out loud: Hall H seats 6,500, Saturday programming runs continuously from 11:15 a.m. through 8:45 p.m., and the room is never cleared between panels.
That means anyone who walked in for the Star Trek 60th anniversary panel at 12:30 or the Apple TV+ showcase at 2 could simply stay planted through Marvel’s 5:30 panel. The fans who camped out for first-seating wristbands were competing for a room that filled up hours before Marvel’s slot with people who never stood in their line.
Comic-Con’s own policy states first-seating wristbands are “issued to ensure that the holder receives first seating,” barring unforeseen circumstances. A Marvel panel filling Hall H is the single most foreseeable circumstance at this convention, and it’s the exact scenario the wristband system exists for.
A Recurring Problem
Hall H crowd chaos around big Marvel panels is nothing new, but Saturday’s situation lands differently given the stakes: it’s Marvel’s first Hall H appearance since the 2024 Robert Downey Jr. Doctor Doom reveal, the full Doom costume hit the Marvel booth Saturday morning, and expectations for tonight include new Avengers: Doomsday footage and a reported 70-plus stars in the building.
In other words, the fans getting turned away are missing what could be the biggest panel of the entire convention, after doing everything Comic-Con’s system asked of them.
