UPDATE 4: With DC elevated at Skydance, the DCU could go bigger, if Gunn makes it past this expiration date.
UPDATE 3: Skydance’s official leadership team is out, and Gunn and Safran are on it as Co-Chairmen of DC Studios, with no word on an extension.
UPDATE 2: Gunn says he is already writing his next movie with the Man of Tomorrow assembly cut complete.
UPDATE: Boxoffice Pro’s first forecast projects Clayface to open below Supergirl.
James Gunn and Peter Safran’s contracts as the heads of DC Studios expire in April 2027, according to Bloomberg.
“The contracts of Safran and Gunn expire in April 2027.”
The date comes in Friday’s report on David Ellison’s plans for the merged film business.
Gunn and Safran met with Ellison on Thursday, and the pair are joining the new company.
The merger closes October 6. April 2027 is six months later.
It also lands before Man of Tomorrow. Gunn’s Superman sequel opens July 9, 2027, which means the contracts run out before the movie even hits theaters.
Our September 1 report said Gunn has no new extension, with the current deal expiring in 2027.
Bloomberg just put a month on it.

Goldberg And Greenstein Take Over Warner Bros. Pictures
Bloomberg confirms the executive shakeup.
Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein, who run Paramount Pictures, will oversee Warner Bros. Pictures once the $111 billion deal closes.
Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy will not join the combined company, which is being renamed Skydance. Their Warner Bros. contracts were renewed just last October.

‘Keep Doing What You’re Doing’ Has An End Date
Thursday’s sit-down is the same meeting THR reported, where Ellison told Gunn and Safran to “keep doing what you’re doing” without handing them a new deal.
Bloomberg adds how DC made its case.
Earlier this year, Ellison traveled to the Man of Tomorrow set in Atlanta, where DC presented its strategy to Paramount management, including CFO Dennis Cinelli and chief strategy officer Andy Gordon.
Per Bloomberg, Ellison backed the pair’s DC plan during the meeting.
But backing the plan and extending the contracts are two different things.
Earlier this week, the word was Gunn and Safran keep running DC “at least initially.”
Now “initially” has an expiration date. April 2027.
A Paramount insider says the budget reviews have already started, and Clayface is the first test. It opens October 23.
And insiders say David Corenswet could keep Superman IF Man of Tomorrow makes money (Netflix CEO confirmed Gunn’s Superman underperformed).
So the calendar reads: merger closes October 6, Clayface opens October 23, Gunn and Safran’s contracts expire in April, and Man of Tomorrow opens that July.
