James Gunn On Grant Gustin Flash Rumor: ‘Please Define Decent Rumor’

James Gunn spent Monday night answering fan questions on Threads, and one fan brought up Grant Gustin.

“What are ur thoughts on people suspecting Grant returning as the flash in the dcu as a comic book variant bc apparently if u look up there’s a decent rumor saying he coming back after u said no he ain’t,” the fan wrote.

Gunn’s reply: “Please define ‘decent rumor’ 😂”

It pulled 1.1K likes and 47 replies, one of the most-liked answers he gave all night.

He Already Answered This In January

Gunn knocked this down in January. Twice.

It started when photos of Gustin with long blond hair went around and fans decided he was prepping to play Barry Allen for DC Studios.

One fan told Gunn people would riot if Gustin wasn’t the DCU’s Flash. Gunn replied: “I keep being told people are going to riot over things but I am as of yet to see a riot. Love Grant by the way.”

Then a fan posted a picture of Gustin in the Flash suit with the caption “This gotta happen.” Gunn answered: “It happened on TV for 9 seasons.”

In that same round of replies, a fan asked if Robert Pattinson’s Batman could show up in the DCU as “some sort of variant.” Gunn’s answer: “No.”

Gustin settled the hair question himself. “I will always welcome the opportunity to play The Flash again,” he wrote on Instagram. “Having said that, my hair is long and blonde for a project that has nothing to do with The Flash or any other superhero.”

The New Version Of The Rumor

The fan who asked Gunn on Monday pointed to an account called Portal Nerd as the source.

The claim is that Gustin comes back as a comic book variant, a separate version of Barry Allen from the one he played on The CW for nine seasons.

That’s the same variant framing Gunn already said no to on Pattinson.

This time he didn’t bother with a denial. He laughed at the sourcing.

Gustin wants the call. Gunn loves Grant. And there’s still no Flash movie or series on DC Studios’ slate.

Gunn also took a question about Man of Tomorrow‘s “secret characters” in the same Q&A.
