Guardians of the Galaxy Comic-Con Reveals Thanos; Trailer Description & Panel Recap

Marvel Studios held their Thor 2 and Captain America 2 panel today at the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con.

You can read the Thor 2 Comic-Con trailer description here and Captain America 2 here.

After the Cap 2 footage the cast of the Guardians of the Galaxy took the stage.

Before we get into the panel recap, it was revealed by the Marvel live panel blog (which the following is taken from) that a character in the movie is both an ally to Ronan and Thanos (which reveals Ronan to be a big bad, too)! Read on!

Update: New concept art has been released.

James Gunn has only shot about two weeks worth of footage for the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. The cast flew in from London and are immediately flying back to continue with filming.

Michael Rooker is confirmed as Yondu.

Djimon Hounsu as Korath The Pursuer.

Benicio Del Tor as The Collector.

Lee Pace is Ronan.

Karen Gillan is Nebula (and bald!)

In attendance at the panel: James Gunn, Chris Pratt, Karen Gillen, Michael Rooker, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Benicio Del Toro, Dave Bautista, and Zoe Saldana.

It’s joked that when Chris Pratt got the part it was said that he’s too fat (he’s not anymore).

“Peter Quill as Star-Lord is this guy who lives in space,” quips Pratt. “He’s kind of a jerk, had a hard time as a kid, and now goes around space making out with hot alien girls and being a rogue. Then he finds something bigger than himself in the Guardians.”

Zoe Saldana jokes that she’s been blue once, so she figured why not try green. Zoe has played blue before, but she’s now psyched to play green. She plays a space assassin. Marvel gives the actors the chance to really embody a character. She describes Gamora as “an assassin from space.”

“I still can’t freakin‘ believe I got this job,” Bautista said.

“He’s gonna freak people out,” Kevin Feige added about Bautista playing Drax.

Dave Bautista still can’t believe he got this job. Kevin says he really earned it after auditioning five or six times–audition processes for our movies can sometimes be very long. Dave Bautista says he broke down and cried like a baby when he got the part of Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy. Dave says he’s the “baby on set” in terms of acting ability, and goes onto the set every day looking to learn something new, and he’s very lucky to work with such talented people.

Huge applause and reaction for Benicio Del Toro. BDT plays The Collector. James Gunn called Benicio and asked him if he’d read the screenplay, and that’s really how he got involved. This is Benicio’s first time meeting the whole cast, as he hasn’t started filming yet.

Lee Pace describes Ronan as “a very complicated Kree. He’s a beast.” He doesn’t want to say too much right now, though.

Djimon plays Korath. He’s a great ally to Ronan and Thanos.
KAREN GILLEN!!!!! Huge reaction for her here. She plays Nebula. Karen Gillen shaved her head for the part of Nebula! She just took her wig off and threw it into the audience.  Karen says it was liberating to shave her head.
“It’s liberating. I think everyone here should shave their heads”  Karen Gillan said.

Michael Rooker plays Yondu in Guardians of the Galaxy. The moderator is joking that he just loves seeing Michael Rooker and Karen Gillen sitting next to each other, since Karen is bald and Michael only has a short mohawk thing.

Now on to the footage! Marvel says it’s Comic-Con exclusive only!

Star-Lord is shown to be getting arrested and he is disappointed they haven’t heard of him. He is on a prison ship with John C. Reilly reading off the prisoner list.

Drax, Gamora, Rocket, and Groot are named and shown. Rocket Raccoon spits when his name is called, and Reilly describes Groot as a “personal house plant of muscle.”

Star-Lord then flips off Reilly by pretending to wind his middle finger up.

Star-Lord is mad and gets angrier when his headphones get taken by a guard who starts to use them.

Reilly then says they call themselves the Guardians of the Galaxy with another guard responding “what a bunch of a-holes.”

A new Guardians of the Galaxy logo is then revealed and “Hooked On Feeling” begins to play.

That’s it!

Also during the Guardians of the Galaxy footage is was announced that the title for The Avengers 2 is Age of Ultron.

The Guardians of the Galaxy movie has an August 1, 2014 release directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt as Peter Quill Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax The Destroyer and Zoe Saldana as Gamora.
