After thirteen years of silence, Rockstar developers are finally talking, and they picked the day before the Extended Look to do it.
Dazed’s autumn issue cover story features the first on-record GTA 6 interviews Rockstar has ever given, with Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson, narrative SVP Rupert Humphries, and the art and design leads walking through how the game actually works.
Worth noting up front: magazine lead times mean these interviews predate the leak crisis entirely, so don’t expect a word about the events of the past two weeks, or about the leaker’s claim that the game is “not ready at all.”
What they contain instead is the most concrete official gameplay information Rockstar has ever released.
And the centerpiece is the couple.

Play Them Together, Swap On The Fly
Jason and Lucia are the first playable couple in franchise history, and the game is built around switching between them mid-scene.
Per Dazed, players can cruise the highway as Jason while Lucia rides passenger scrolling the in-game phone, then swap when the job goes wrong: take the wheel as one character, switch to the other to fire on pursuers out the passenger window, all in the same chase.
Afterward, the two can ride a single jetski across the Leonida coast, one with their arms around the other.
Humphries describes the setup as “a Bonnie and Clyde-type narrative,” with the option to stick together or split off and cause chaos solo.
Two more details from the piece.
The in-game phone has working social media feeds, including a rising rap duo whose career plays out through viral posts.
And Lucia is the first fully developed female lead in a mainline GTA, which the piece frames as a direct answer to the series’ long-running criticism on that front and a play for a bigger female audience.

The Red Dead Systems Are Official
The interviews also confirm what the leaked clips already suggested: this game runs on the Red Dead Redemption 2 simulation philosophy, not GTA 5‘s.
Food affects Jason and Lucia’s weight. Exercise visibly builds muscle. Spend days on a bender or on the run without sleep, and it shows on their faces.
Nelson says the days of moving through the city like a god are over, with the world reacting to what you do, down to pedestrians responding if you walk down the street carrying a rifle.
Even the supporting cast lines up. The interviews name-check conspiracy-obsessed criminal Cal Hampton, who already surfaced in one of the leaked cutscenes.
The scale behind it reads like a wonder of the world.
The team has more than doubled since RDR2, with a research unit embedded in Miami, interviews with ex-criminals, gun dealers, and club promoters, more than 50 real street artists painting the game’s Wynwood district, and actual race-car drivers tuning vehicle handling.
Dazed cites an online rumor, and it is only that, claiming the budget tops the Burj Khalifa’s construction cost.
Nelson calls the external pressure unprecedented, then says it’s nothing next to the pressure the team puts on itself.
Rockstar gets to prove that Thursday. The Extended Look premieres on Netflix at 3 p.m. ET, free on YouTube at 9 p.m. ET, one day after the studio’s statement on the leaks. GTA 6 launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
