Update: New episodes will return in January.
Sure to disappoint many many many fans, Cartoon Network has decided to pull Green Lantern: The Animated Series as well as Young Justice in “celebration” for their 20th birthday.
As fans of the shows found this morning, episodes of How To Train Your Dragon were aired.
The news comes to as much of a surprise to the producer of Green Lantern, Giancarlo Volpe, as it does to anyone.
“Apparently Cartoon Network preempted it in celebration of their 20th birthday,” Volpe let it be known on Twitter. “Their logic, not mine. I am very disappointed. […] Preempted means they replaced it (hopefully only temporarily) with How to Train Your Dragon.”
Both Green Lantern: The Animated Series and Young Justice debuted new episodes only two weeks ago, and now Volpe says episodes won’t be returning for the rest of the month of October.
“Don’t shoot the messenger. We were first to report that DC Nation has been replaced for the rest of this month,” Volpe offered to fans.
AS CBR’s Spinoff notes, fans have taken to the DC Nation Facebook page to voice their concerns and disapproval.
“You might want to reconsider your relationship with Cartoon Network,” One fan writes.” Young Justice and Green Lantern have dedicated and passionate fan bases that are pretty tired of being jerked around and disrespected by CN. Perhaps a network like The CW, which has an existing relationship with DC entertainment and DC fans would be a better fit.”
An official announcement has yet to come from Cartoon Network.
