Green Lantern (2011) Movie Marketing Delayed by Special Effects

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:218:]]Where’s all the hype?

Besides various websites showcasing images, pics of the toys or scans from the comic book, the Green Lantern movie has been short on promotion.

We found out just why that is – from Jeff Robinov, current Warner Bros. group president (due for a promotion with news of a Justice League movie!).

With the upcoming Green Lantern movie to be shot in CGI – Robinov says that due to the special effects, the advertising campaign has been delayed, according to the LA Times.

“We are on a learning curve in getting 3-D materials and marketing materials on the same schedule,” Robinov said. The advertising campaign “has been delayed strictly from production.”

Green Lantern’s budget surpasses $200 million as the studio looks for something to replace the billion dollar Harry Potter franchise. Green Lantern is what they are betting on (also Bats and Supes).

All is not lost, as word comes that new promotional material will be released this weekend at the WonderCon in San Francisco and the CinemaCon in Las Vegas. In addition, look for a new trailer to hit with the upcoming Thor movie on May 6th.

Regarding the previous trailer, which was ill-received, the studio is confident the next one will be better.

“Part of the reason the response to the first trailer was lukewarm was that the big-scale sequences weren’t ready to show, and we suffered for it,” said Sue Kroll, WB’s worldwide marketing president. “We can’t afford to do that again.”

They certainly can’t – as chatter among industry insiders has stated the movie to be not so good; however, like the first trailer, that was early on in development – apparently.

The Green Lantern movie opens in theaters June 17th, 2011 starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, Blake Lively as Carol Ferris, Peter Sarsgaard as Hector Hammond, Mark Strong as Sinestro and Temuera Morrison as Abin Sur.
