Green Lantern 2 Would Be A Surprise To Mark Strong

Will there be a “Green Lantern 2?”

Sinestro Mark Strong isn’t so sure.

By all accounts, we will find out the fate of the DC movie universe this June with Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill’s new Superman movie, Man of Steel.

It’s been stated that the Justice League movie depends on the success of the Man of Steel; of course, which would mean the fate of DC’s other movie characters (except Batman most likely) would be dependent on the new Superman as well.

Warner Bros. previous attempts at a successful comic book movie franchise outside The Dark Knight Trilogy failed with Superman Returns and the Green Lantern movie.

Speaking of the latter, while it really didn’t bomb per se at the box office, Green Lantern just wasn’t a hit amongst most fans and critics. Green Lantern actually came out in the black, albeit only around $20 million.

Speaking with MTV, Mark Strong let it be known that the post-credit scene which featured Sinestro donning the yellow ring was intended more as a set up for what’s to come in “Green Lantern 2” and the trilogy, and not directly related to anything in the movie.

“A lot of people seemed to be confused by him putting on the ring at the end of the movie,” Strong said about Sinestro. “They felt that it came out of nowhere. All it was, during the credits, there was a sequence which was a nod to where the trilogy was intending to head to. It wasn’t ever meant to be part of the story of the first film.”

Regarding the status of “Green Lantern 2” and the trilogy, Mark Strong doesn’t offer any hope in that he hasn’t heard anything in quite a while, but does state that it would have been fun, which suggests the actor would return.

“I would be surprised if they made a second one because I’ve heard nothing about it in quite a while now,” Strong explains to MTV. “What that standalone moment was intended to relate to was where the movies were headed and that, for me, would have been very exciting because the putting on of the ring and the whole suit turning yellow would have been great fun.”

Regarding what is known about “Green Lantern 2,” recently a batch of storyboards surfaced that revealed a Green Lantern Corps space battle, which may have been a part of the first or further into the trilogy.

Cosmic Book News has also been told a batch of reported “Green Lantern 2” script details from our DC Entertainment Source, which included the movie being set in space and hints about the third film.

While we wait for June to get here, should Ryan Reynolds be given a second shot at Green Lantern or should Warner Bros. give it a reboot?
