Green Lantern 2: Time Warner CEO “Deciding that in due course,” and Ryan Reynolds comments

pic I think every time something comes out of the various news outlets hinting there might be a sequel to the Green Lantern movie, within hour or days another outlet has something that contradicts that.

Just yesterday, Warner Bros. President Jeff Robinov mentioned a new direction for GL 2 – and there was even something about Martin Campbell not coming back.

Now, when Time Warner chairman and CEO Jeff Bewkes was asked about GL‘s performance and potential for a sequel, he seemed to put the brakes on.

“It did not live up to expectations – fell fairly far short of those,” Bewkes said in a conference call with The Hollywood Reporter.

And regarding the sequel, Bewkes said, “We will be deciding that in due course.”

Ryan Reynolds was asked about a sequel for Green Lantern, as well, at the premiere for The Change Up.

“I have no idea, that’s not up to me,” Reynolds told MTV. “I don’t write those checks. And if I did I certainly wouldn’t be standing on a red carpet, I would be sunning myself somewhere,” he joked.

With an estimated budget upwards of $300 million (including advertising), Green Lantern fell short of expectations at the box office with its opening weekend debut of $53 million. According to BoxOfficeMojo.com the total gross is at $154,462,444 million worldwide.
