Update: Reward has been unlocked.
[[wysiwyg_imageupload:4380:]]A couple days before Thanksiving, Warner Bros. unleashed a new promotion for the new Superman movie, Man of Steel, in conjunction with a promotion for The Dark Knight Rises Blu-Ray.
A widget (below) was to be shared on various social networks and when “unlocked” (enough shares) an exclusive Man of Steel reward would be let loose on the world.
Similar to The Dark Knight Rises “The Fire Rises” Twitter campaign, which unlocked a first look at Bane, we put it forth that maybe we’ll get our first official peek at Michael Shannon as Zod, before the new Man of Steel trailer attached to The Hobbit.
Regardless if we are wrong about Zod, at least it sounds good and gets people to plug it on their Facebook and Twitter accounts.
That seemed to be the case as the meter on the widget quickly escalated; however, Warner Bros. must have been out on the busiest bar night of the year, or Braniac might have been tampering with the programming, as the meter fell quicker than a drowning Superman with a Kryptonite necklace.
The meter went from around 30% to over %50 to 2% — to only Zod knows!
Currently, the Man of Steel promotion meter is at 89%, was “reset” correctly after Thanksgiving, and seems to be inching at around 2% per day.
So that still leaves us about 5 days from when we’ll get our reward, which would be next week, and then the Man of Steel trailer follows the week thereafter on December 14th. This also puts us at the same time The Dark Knight Rises Blu-Ray gets released — on Tuesday, December 4th (good timing, eh?!)
I know I’m not the only one, but I half as much expected the reward to be revealed within a day or two, much like Bane was on Twitter (which worked!).
While we wait, I suppose it can’t hurt to give it a share – again – as it might get us there quicker, but not faster than a speeding bullet.
Man of Steel flies into theaters June 14th, 2013 directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill as Superman, Michael Shannon as Zod, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Kevin Coster as Jonathan “Pa” Kent, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha “Ma” Kent, Christopher Meloni as Colonel Hardy, Harry Lennix as General Swanwick, Antje Traue as Faora and Aylet Zurer as Lara Lor-Van.
