Today sees the debut of the new Thor comic from Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic, Thor: God of Thunder #1.

We already know that the Marvel comics are following the Marvel Studios movies pretty closely as they just moved their entire line into the Avengers “universe” with the Marvel NOW! relaunch.

So with that it comes to no surprise that a previous set image from Thor 2 of Chris Hemsworth’s stuntman revealed a similar look to the cover of Thor: God of Thunder #1 with the new sleeveless leather armor (below).

And now there might be something else the movie and comic book share in common — and it’s another comic book cover.

When set images first surfaced from the Thor 2 Bourne Wood, England set, an enigmatic alien dressed in a cloak was seen throughout.

M.E. Byron Brewer couldn’t hammer down who it was, as Byron is our resident Thor expert, leading to speculation of a new character.

Is it Gorr the God Butcher as seen on the cover to Thor: God of Thunder #2 (right)?

Gorr the God Butcher is the new Thor comic book villain who is described as a serial killer of the gods, and it’s up to Thor to defeat him. Gor hunts Thor throughout three different timelines: a young Thor in the Viking Age, the present in space, and the future when Thor is known as King Thor.

Could Gorr be the alien from the set images? CBN’s Chris “DOC” Bushley thinks it might. The face is a little different, minus a nose, but it could be possible.

Here’s a side by side comparison:
