UPDATE 8/25: Toho’s Godzilla Minus Zero, out first on November 6, is getting a New York Comic Con panel on October 10 with producer Kazuaki Kishida and the Oscar-winning Minus One VFX and sound team.
Godzilla X Kong: Supernova doesn’t hit theaters until March 2027, but early word from a test screening is now circulating, and it’s good news for the MonsterVerse.
YouTuber D Man1954 (watch below) says he personally knows three people who attended a February test screening of the film, and all three liked it.
Per his account, the consensus in the room was that Supernova is a step up from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and possibly from Godzilla vs. Kong as well.
Worth noting: this is secondhand, based on an unfinished cut, and nothing here has been confirmed by Warner Bros. or Legendary.
Tone compared to King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong
D Man1954 said the general atmosphere in the theater was that the movie was “an improvement over New Empire and maybe even an improvement over Godzilla vs. Kong.”
All three of his contacts described the movie the same way: a blend of Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong in tone and style, not plot.
That points to a more serious film than The New Empire, with higher stakes and a bigger, more developed world, along with the kind of human drama Godzilla vs. Kong pulled off with Jia and Kong.
The account tracks with the leaks that surfaced right after the February screening, which described reactions as mostly positive and pegged SpaceGodzilla as the main villain, something the Writers Guild of America listing had already confirmed.
Alycia Debnam-Carey says it’s ‘big’
Star Alycia Debnam-Carey was asked about the movie at the tail end of an unrelated interview and said the NDAs are so strict she can’t say anything beyond the fact that the film exists and she’s in it. She did tease that it will be big.
That lines up with the rumor of a second mass awakening, which fans pulled from the title-card teaser Legendary posted last year.
Warner Bros. and Legendary passed on showing footage at San Diego Comic-Con, so a trailer is still a ways off.
Grant Sputore directs from a script by Dave Callaham, with a cast that includes Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O’Connell, Delroy Lindo, Matthew Modine, Debnam-Carey, the late Sam Neill and Dan Stevens, returning as Trapper Beasley.
Godzilla X Kong: Supernova opens March 26, 2027, about four months after Toho’s Godzilla Minus Zero sends Godzilla to New York in November.
