UPDATE: Disney has now officially locked Ghost Rider for July 28, 2028, confirming the date Deadline had pointed to a day earlier.
Marvel confirmed Ryan Gosling’s Ghost Rider for 2028 at Comic-Con but stopped short of giving it a release date.
Deadline thinks it knows where the movie is going.
In its D23 rundown of Disney’s 2028 slate, the trade points to July 28, 2028, a date Disney currently has reserved on the industry release calendar, and calls it a good bet for Shawn Levy’s Ghost Rider.
That’s Deadline’s read, not an official Marvel announcement.
But the date makes sense. It’s the late-July summer slot that has already delivered Deadpool & Wolverine, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Deadline’s advice to every other studio is pretty simple: don’t put anything against it.
Marvel Could Have Three Movies In 2028
If July 28 holds, Marvel’s 2028 movie slate would line up as X-Men on May 5, Ghost Rider on July 28, and Black Panther 3 on December 15.
Universal currently has an untitled tentpole sitting just five days after Black Panther 3.
Deadline’s bigger takeaway is what three MCU movies in one year says about Marvel right now.
With Spider-Man: Brand New Day closing in on $1.8 billion, the trade no longer views Marvel through the superhero-fatigue lens. Tom Rothman said essentially the same thing two weeks ago.

For Levy and Gosling, the schedule would put Star Wars: Starfighter on Memorial Day 2027 and Ghost Rider just fourteen months later.
Gosling is heavily involved with Starfighter, per our reporting from the Comic-Con floor, while Kevin Feige is giving him a major say in Ghost Rider‘s creative direction, including which version of the Rider he plays.
Could Ghost Rider Debut Before His Solo Movie?
The July 2028 date also raises another question: when do we actually see Gosling’s Ghost Rider for the first time?
The character appears in the alleged Avengers: Doomsday plot leak, and Gosling walked out in front of 7,000 fans wearing Doom masks at Hall H.
A July 2028 solo movie would leave plenty of room for Ghost Rider to debut first in December’s Doomsday or the following December in Secret Wars.
That part remains rumor. Marvel hasn’t said when Gosling will first appear as the character.
Also worth remembering: Cosmic Book News exclusively learned Keanu Reeves was also up for the role before Gosling landed it.
For now, Ghost Rider is officially dated only for “2028.” If Deadline is right, July 28 could be the date Marvel has been holding for it.
