DC Comics’ Justice League #7 sees the beginning of the 10 page back-up story by Geoff Johns, “The Curse Of Shazam,” with art by Gary Frank.
Johns spoke with Newsarama about that, but also mentioned the Captain Marvel movie that has been placed on the backburner for the past few years or so.
Johns, DC Comics Chief Creative Officer, was specifically asked if the project was dead, as no news has been heard of in quite some time.
Oh, no, Shazam’s always — there’s always a possibility for Shazam. There’s always talk about Shazam. And I can’t get into the specifics on that, but yeah, there’s hope for Shazam.
Johns was also asked if this new back-up featuring Captain Marvel — though the New 52 is referring to CM as strictly Shazam — had any relation to his work in the film. As of 2009, Johns was listed as a co-writer and producer on the movie.
Not really. It’s got some elements that I pitched in there, and some of the same characters, obviously, because the characters cross over. Tonally, it’s probably pretty close.
Justice League #7, with art by Gene Ha, is scheduled for release March 21st.
