On August 21, our source told us to keep an eye on Gal Gadot and her schedule: “She might do WW 3 before Cavill is available for JL or Super.”
One week later, Gadot is talking Wonder Woman herself, and her account of the past three years makes one thing plain: whatever happens next with Wonder Woman 3, it won’t come from the people who promised it to her.
Doing press for The Runner, Kevin Macdonald’s thriller hitting Prime Video on September 2, Gadot told Screen Rant’s Grant Hermanns she hasn’t had “any specific conversations” with James Gunn or DC Studios about returning as Wonder Woman, or about taking on a different character the way Jason Momoa traded Aquaman for Lobo.
The last real conversation, per Gadot, was when “they came to the studio, and they really wanted to develop the third one.”
Since then? She hasn’t “heard anything.”
The 2023 Promise: “You’ve Got Nothing To Worry About”
That studio meeting isn’t a mystery. Gadot described it herself back in August 2023, while promoting Heart of Stone.
“I had a meeting with Peter Safran and James Gunn, and they both told me that they’re going to develop a third Wonder Woman with me,” she told USA Today at the time. “They said, ‘You’re in the best hands, you’ve got nothing to worry about.’ Time will tell.”
Some context on that meeting: Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3, with Gadot, was scrapped in December 2022 as Gunn and Safran took over DC Studios. The meeting was the reassurance that came after.
And that reassurance lasted about a week.
Sources were soon telling Deadline and Variety that nothing was in development, that a Wonder Woman 3 was never part of the new leadership’s plans at all.
Three years later, Gadot’s “haven’t heard anything” settles which version was true.
Wonder Woman Under Gunn: A Walk-On And A Canceled Show
Where has the character gone in those three years?
As we exclusively reported, Adria Arjona is playing Wonder Woman in Man of Tomorrow, and we’re told the role is more of a cameo, one she hadn’t filmed a frame of as of Comic-Con, despite production running since April.
Her scenes finally landed in the final weeks of the shoot, right before Gunn called wrap on August 26. Cameos get written, finalized, and shot late.
Paradise Lost, the Themyscira series Gunn had in “extreme development” as recently as April, is dead.
So a character whose 2017 solo movie did $822 million worldwide currently amounts to a walk-on in someone else’s movie and a canceled show.
That’s the regime Gadot has been waiting on for three years.
Her Message To The Next Wonder Woman
Which brings us to the part everyone is treating as a farewell. Asked about whoever wears the armor next, Gadot said this:
“This is such an incredible character that so many of us care about so much, so whoever it’s going to be to portray her, I wish for her that she enjoys this amazing ride with this amazing character. And I’m just grateful that I was granted the opportunity to wear her boots and celebrate this incredible character and everything she stands for.”
Classy. Gracious. And notice what it isn’t: a retirement announcement. She was asked about Gunn’s DCU, and she answered about Gunn’s DCU.
What Our Sources Say Now
Our August 21 exclusive laid it out: under the incoming regime, a Gal Gadot Wonder Woman 3 is a scheduling question, one that might move “before Cavill is available for JL or Super.” That’s Justice League or Superman. The source treats a Henry Cavill return as the thing being scheduled around.

Her calendar backs the timing, too. The Runner streams September 2. Doug Liman’s Bitcoin is in post. The WWII thriller Ruin is shot. Fast Forever starts up in December, and after that, the schedule opens. She’s also already producing The Recovery Agent at Paramount, so the relationship with the incoming owner is live.
Zack Snyder, for his part, keeps posting her.
And Gadot talking Wonder Woman isn’t the only piece of that universe back in the conversation this week: so is Zack Snyder’s Justice League, with a director who shadowed the original shoot calling Snyder’s set “lovely” and the ugly stories, Gadot’s included, tracing to the 2017 Whedon reshoots.
The Paramount-WBD deal is frozen while the court fight plays out, meaning the deal can’t close until the case is resolved, and a judge’s verdict after trial could come as late as June 2027, unless the two sides settle out of court first.
“You’re in the best hands, you’ve got nothing to worry about.” That was August 2023. Three years of silence later, Gadot is wishing her replacement luck, while the people who might actually make Wonder Woman 3 are the ones watching her schedule.
