Frank Grillo is back on Man of Tomorrow, the same movie he said goodbye to seven weeks ago.
The Rick Flag Sr. actor posted a new Instagram Story from the tarmac at the Atlanta airport this week, writing, “showed up in atlanta to finish @superman and this was waiting šš” over a shot of a double rainbow arcing above the Delta terminal. The soundtrack, naturally, was Elvis Presley’s “Pocketful of Rainbows.”
Nice sky. Interesting word choice: “finish.”

Grillo Already Wrapped In May
Because as CBN covered at the time, Grillo announced his wrap back on May 28, posting “Nothing but love. Wrapped!!” and confirming on video, “It’s a wrap on Rick Flag and Superman. Man of Tomorrow.”
He called it his last day on the film, said he was “sad to go,” and signed off with “love and gratitude deep in my soul.”
That’s a goodbye. Not a lunch break.
Seven weeks later, he’s flying back to Atlanta to “finish” the movie, meaning either new Rick Flag material was written after the character wrapped, or what was shot is being redone.
The Frankensteined Script Strikes Again
Both fit exactly what our insiders have been describing. Per our exclusive reporting, the Man of Tomorrow script was “Frankensteined” together from previous ideas, with James Gunn shooting Marvel-style off a loose outline, which is how the film keeps bolting on DC characters mid-production.
The receipts keep stacking: Blue Beetle got added back, Gunn is teasing Guy Gardner from the set, Wonder Woman may or may not be filming under the name Maxima, and the latest rumor has Alexander Ludwig as the DCU’s new Aquaman. All of it in what began as a Superman sequel and is now, per our sources, a mini-Justice League “Gang” movie.
Gunn wanted Batman in that pile, too. Our insiders have Alan Ritchson as the frontrunner for his DCU Dark Knight, with Landman star Mitchell Slaggert the newest rumored name, and the standoff over the character is why The Batman Part II got pushed to February 2028 while Matt Reeves waited him out.
A cast member returning to shoot more, weeks after his emotional goodbye, is what that process looks like from the outside.
Marvel Just Showed Everyone How This Ends
If you want to know where shoot-first-script-later leads, look across the aisle: Avengers: Doomsday rolled cameras without a finished script and is now reportedly a “mess” in the editing room, with the Russos struggling to find the movie.
Gunn spent years promising DC would be the anti-Marvel: no movie greenlit without a finished script. Man of Tomorrow is being made the Marvel Way.
