Tickets are already on sale for Peter Jackson’s hugely anticipated movie, The Hobbit, and with it already been said that the Man of Steel trailer is set to run in front of it, that should seem incentive enough to get your tickets early.
However, there might be a a little added incentive – or should we say big – in that it looks likely that the first trailer for Guillermo Del Toro’s epic sci-fi monster robot movie, Pacific Rim, will also run in front of The Hobbit.
“We have a couple of finished shots, but most of the stuff is being finished for the trailer,” Guillermo Del Toro tells The Collider. “If it goes public, it has to be [stuff that I’m happy to show]. I’m very, very happy to show off what we’ll show in December.”
Pacific Rim sees giant monsters called Kaiju attack the earth with mankind responding by building their own giant human controlled Mechs known as Jaegers.
Already there has been mention that the movie has been well received by Warner Bros, so it comes to no surprise that Del Toro mentions a sequel, albeit from the sounds of it not right away.
“We certainly started tossing ideas for possibilities of a sequel and Travis Beacham and I are writing a proposal of ideas, but at the same time I know I don’t want to do that next,” Del Toro said. “I want to do something else, I want to do something in a different genre that’s not so big. So I don’t know yet what it’s gonna be, but I know that next year I’m delivering Pacific Rim in July and then I’m doing—God willing—the voice shooting for Pinocchio and then the pilot for The Strain for FX.”
Pacific Rim opens July 12th, 2013, directed by Guillermo Del Toro, starring Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Ron Perlman.
Synopsis:
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes – a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) – who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
