Three of the biggest video game adaptations in Hollywood are reportedly all moving through British stages at the same time.
Filmbase, a UK site that runs job alerts and crew directories for freelancers in British film and television, published its August industry roundup listing productions gearing up or already underway. Far Cry, Gears of War and Call of Duty are all on it.
Filmbase assembles these updates from conversations with crew rather than studio announcements, and says so plainly, so treat the specifics as a well-sourced industry report rather than official confirmation.
Far Cry Is In Prep At Pinewood
The listing puts FX’s Far Cry series in prep at Pinewood right now.
That matches what Noah Hawley said himself. Talking to Deadline in April, he explained he had built both Far Cry and Alien: Earth season two out of Pinewood, with a secondary location serving both shows, and that Far Cry shoots once Alien: Earth wraps.
Hawley directs the first two episodes and hands the rest to a co-showrunner, because he cannot run two shows at once and pretend otherwise.
The cast has filled in since we covered the greenlight. Rob Mac stars, with Lizzy Caplan joining in June and Steve Buscemi added in July.
It remains an anthology in the Fargo mold, a new cast and location every season, streaming on Hulu domestically and Disney+ everywhere else.
Gears Of War Finally Has A Stage
Filmbase lists Netflix’s adaptation at Shepperton, with a question mark on the studio, expected around August once another production clears the stages.
At CinemaCon in April, David Leitch would only say he thought it was going to happen, that the draft was in good shape, and that Netflix was behind it.
Jon Spaihts is still writing, and there is still no cast. Dave Bautista has spent years campaigning to play Marcus Fenix, and Netflix has never answered him.
Call Of Duty Starts Prep Within Weeks
The Call of Duty is reportedly being shot at Shinfield Studios in Berkshire, with prep due to start in the next few weeks.
Peter Berg directs from a script he wrote with Taylor Sheridan, and Paramount dated it for June 30, 2028 at CinemaCon.
The Hollywood Reporter added the key detail in July: the film is set in the Modern Warfare universe, which is the most adaptable corner of the franchise and the one with actual characters attached to it.
